COVENT GARDEN
The Fruit, Vegetable and Flower MarketsBy Clive Boursnell, introduction by Peter Ackroyd
The magic of the old Covent Garden Market is evoked through Clive Boursnell’s marvellous photographs, taken over the course of numerous and extended visits to Covent Garden in the 1960s and 1970s. The book includes an introduction by Peter Ackroyd as well as the words of some of the market people whom the photographer interviewed at the time.
Faced with literally thousands of images, this was as much about the picture editing as the design. It was such a pleasure to pore over the historical records and imagine what life on the market must have been like. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Clive and we have done several books together since.
